Content Update [June 2006]
American Periodicals Series Online is now complete with the exception
of one title - Ohio Common School Director (1838). The copy of
this title available on microfilm was photographed from a photostat copy
that was not of sufficient quality for digitizing. We are currently seeking
an alternate source. Now that the collection is complete, we will continue
filling gaps as they are discovered.
Title List [June 2006]
APS Online spans 7 million pages of content, from the first American
magazines, published in 1741, to the World War II period-200 years of
American history as recorded in magazines, journals, and newspapers.
A complete title list is available for downloading in Excel format with
dates of coverage and OpenURLs: APS
Title List.
MARC Records - now available!
[March 2006]
MARC records are now available for all titles that were complete in
APS as of early 2005. An upgrade of records for titles added throughout
2005 will become available later this year. You can download APS MARC
records from About APS.
Hit Term Highlighting - now
available!
[March 2006]
ProQuest hit term highlighting is now available for over 500 titles
in APS. Your search terms will be highlighted in yellow, making it easier
to find your terms within the articles for the periodicals for which
this feature is available. Some of the titles with hit term highlighting
are:
- The Cosmopolitan
- The Independent
- Liberator
- Life
- Living Age
- Medical and Surgical Reporter
- Niles' Register
- Outlook
You can find out which titles have hit term highlighting available by
keyword searching on "hit term highlighting" from the APS Publication
Search.

Interface Update [July 2003]
In 2002, new content and some redigitized periodicals were introduced
with improved image quality and searchability. The two different kinds
of content are described in About
This Collection and are distinguishable in search results:
- Original content: View Page Image is the only viewer option.
- Post 2002 and redigitized content: View Article Image and View Page
Map are available. In addition, the View Page Map screen has a link
to View Page Image and a browse function that allows users to page
through the entire issue of the periodical.
- Throughout 2004 and 2005 original content will be remanufactured
to these newer specifications. These titles will have hit term highlighting
available as well.
Six additional article type searches are available for new content:
