Accession Number

The Accession Number is a unique number assigned to each record in the database. Each database using Accession numbers using a slightly different format for these numbers.

In the ERIC database, the accession number consists of a two-letter prefix followed by six digits. 'ED' and 'EJ' are possible prefixes, which identify the source file.

In the PsycINFO and CINAHL databases, the accesssion number is a 10 digit number.

In the AGRICOLA database, the accession number is a 3 letter prefix (CAT or IND) which represents the source file, followed by 8 digits.

    Access URL

    Searches the Access URL index, which lists the location of electronic-only journals on the Web. The field contains the url to link directly to the content
    when possible on a journal's website.

    Appendix

    Used to search the Appendix of a document. The appendix usually comes at the end of the document, identified by a header - [Appendix].

    Article/Document Column Head

    The title of a column in a periodical or newspaper, such as "The Week in Review." This search field finds all articles where the search words are in the column head.

    Article Title

    The title of an article, such as "Peering into the Future of Careers." This search field locates the occurrence of search words in the title of the article.

    Author Affiliation

     The author affiliation field contains institutional affiliation and address of the first author, and grant numbers. Grant or contract numbers can be searched using the search field tag AA, e.g., AA(LM05545/LM/NLM). All three pieces of the ID field (actual number/grant acronym/ institute mnemonic) are individually searchable. More precise retrieval results from searching on the grant acronym, except in cases where the grant acronym is also state postal code abbreviation.

    Classification Description / Expansion

    Use to find keywords within the classification labels or descriptions in articles.
